Leon McKenzie grabbed his first goal for Corby Town as they maintained their unbeaten run in pre-season with a 1-1 draw at Rugby Town.
The Steelmen were indebted to goalkeeper Paul Walker on a number of occasions as the hosts, who play in the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central, gave the visitors a tough examination.
Walker saved superbly from Seb Lake-Gaskin in the opening period and Sam Ives was forced to hack another effort off the line while Corby struggled to create clear-cut chances despite enjoying plenty of possession.
The hosts went in front early in the second half when Lake-Gaskin was left with an open net but the goal only sparked the Steelmen into life.
Substitute Gregg Kariboni volleyed just wide and McKenzie had a header cleared off the line before the equaliser arrived.
Avelino Vieira skipped away from a challenge on the left and pulled the ball back for Kariboni, whose shot was blocked.
And it fell to McKenzie who made no mistake with a fierce half-volley.
The remainder of the contest was even, although Walker made another fine save to deny Rugby towards the end.
The Steelmen are back in action at Southern League Premier Division side Bedford Town on Saturday.
