Mansfield boss Paul Cox was furious with the timing of the Cobblers’ goal against his side - because he felt they were ‘in no danger whatsoever’ at that stage of the game.

Cox was also less than impressed with the goal itself, a free header for Kaid Mohamed at a corner kick after 26 minutes which was enough to settle the contest 1-0 in Town’s favour.

“It’s very disappointing to lose the game on a restart because that’s something that we work very hard on,” said Cox, whose side came closest to scoring through Ryan Tafazolli’s header late in the first half.

“We do a lot on that in training so for it to be the thing that decides the game is very disappointing for us.

“There was no foul on the goalkeeper, I’m not having that, we just didn’t defend it properly.

“We gave their lad a free header and that’s not like us because we have roles and we have responsibilities within the team.

“We were on top of the game when we conceded and we weren’t in any danger whatsoever. There’s a lot of food for thought for us.

“We were a bit leggy in the final stages of the game and that will come with the games that we play, we have to battle on.”
