Tommy Wright believes Corby Town’s pre-season schedule is exactly how it should be.
The Steelmen are set for another stern test at Steel Park on Saturday when they take on a Leicester City XI, having been edged out by a Leeds United side in front of over 700 fans at home on Wednesday night.
Further home friendlies with Conference North outfit Brackley Town (Tuesday) and a Nottingham Forest XI (Friday) follow on next week.
And boss Wright, who made former Boston United midfielder Ben Milnes his latest signing following the clash with Leeds, feels his players will learn a lot from the games against the big guns.
Reflecting on the midweek defeat, Wright said: “You could see from 70 minutes onwards that our players got a bit leggy and Leeds’ fitness told, that was something we expected.
“I would have loved to have won the game, of course. But our boys worked really hard and I think everyone can see we have something here. There were loads of positives for us to take out of the game.
“And we learned a lot in what we can do better in terms of defensive shape and going forward.
“The lads would have been tired after it but they will be ready to go again this weekend.
“This is the way I like it and it’s the way pre-season should be.
“To have clubs like Leeds, Leicester and Nottingham Forest sending squads to play us is great.
“The fans get to see high quality players, our boys get a good test and the crowds bring in some welcome revenue for the club.
“But, over the next week, I think the game against Brackley on Tuesday is the one that is really important because we will be able to look at how we perform against a team that is at the level we want to get back to.”
