Aman Verma is set to earn his first start for Corby Town tonight (Tuesday) when they travel to Premier Division rivals St Neots Town in the second round of the Calor League Red Insure Cup.
The midfielder, who can also play in an attacking role, came on for his debut in the latter stages of Saturday’s 3-1 win over Weymouth at Steel Park and set up the third goal for Stuart Hendrie.
Having joined on loan from Stockport County on Friday, the former Kettering Town man is set to start tonight’s clash along with Gareth Jelleyman, who continued his comeback from a broken jaw when he replaced Paul Malone after 21 minutes at the weekend.
Malone is definitely out due to that ankle injury but youngster Harry May will be in the squad after impressing during last Wednesday’s 4-0 win over Sileby Rangers in the NFA Hillier Senior Cup.
Nabil Shariff and Lee Hendrie have both left Steel Park since Saturday and joint-boss Andrew Wilson insists tonight’s game will present an opportunity to a number of players.
“It will be a chance for some of the lads to get some much-needed minutes under their belts,” he said.
“The likes of Aman, Gareth and Harry will be involved and we will check up on Tom Ingram as well to see if we can get him out there.
“We had a good win at St Neots in the league recently but they are a team I have a lot of respect for because they try to get the ball down and play in the right way.
“They have beaten Hemel Hempstead 4-1 since that game and you don’t do that unless you are a decent side.
“It will be a good test and an opportunity for some players to show that they can play against this level of opposition more often.”
