Former AFC Rushden & Diamonds striker Alfie Taylor was a surprise inclusion in Kettering Town’s line-up for their latest friendly at Harborough Town.
And the frontman, who was prolific at the Dog & Duck before finishing last season on loan at Burton Park Wanderers, did his chances of earning a deal with the Poppies no harm as he grabbed the opening goal in their 3-0 success at their ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division opponents.
All of Kettering goals came in the second half with Henry Eze heading home the second from a corner before Josh Moreman wrapped things up with his fifth goal in pre-season.
The Poppies’ next friendly is against their landlords Burton at Latimer Park on Friday evening.
Elsewhere, a youthful Corby Town side claimed a 1-0 win at AFC Rushden & Diamonds.
But it was the experience of manager Tommy Wright that proved the difference as he grabbed the only goal of the game in the second half in front of a crowd of 278 at the Dog & Duck.
Wright made nine changes to his team after the 3-0 win over Stewarts & Lloyds at the weekend with youngster Connor Kennedy captaining the Steelmen, who are straight back into action when they take on a Leeds United XI at Steel Park tomorrow (Wednesday) night.
