Corby Town’s final away game of the Calor League Premier Division campaign ended in defeat as they went down 1-0 at play-off chasing Cambridge City.
The Steelmen handed starts to Pa Njie and Lovejoy Manfini for the game while joint-managers Andrew Wilson and Tommy Wright made up half of the number on the substitutes’ bench.
Cambridge struck early as Robbie Burns beat Paul Walker from 13 yards to give them the lead.
And that proved to be the only goal of the game as the Steelmen produced an excellent battling performance to stay in the match until the end.
Their season, which has been boosted by the news that a consortium of local businessmen are set to complete a takeover of the club, is rounded off at Steel Park next Saturday when they entertain Bedford Town.
Steelmen: Walker, May, Ives, Carruthers, Thomas, McGowan, Mills, John, Njie, Barton, Manfini. Subs: Wilson, Wright, Carpenter, Clarke.
Goal: Burns (13 mins, 1-0).
