It was just under four weeks ago when a 2-0 win over Tamworth at Steel Park gave Corby Town’s supporters renewed hope of seeing their team avoid relegation this season.
The Steelmen were impressive that day and followed it up with a 1-1 draw at Alfreton Town.
But three defeats in a row to promotion-chasers Nuneaton Town, North Ferriby United and AFC Fylde on Tuesday night have left them rock-bottom of the Vanarama National League North and four points adrift of safety.
Corby head to Tamworth for a third meeting with the Lambs this season after they had earlier lost 6-2 in the FA Trophy, despite looking comfortable when 2-1 up before a spectacular 18-minute capitulation resulted in a humiliating defeat.
Tamworth are still chasing hard for a play-off place and Steelmen boss Tommy Wright – a former Lambs player – said: “I think our performances against them this season should give us confidence.
“We know that if we play to our potential then we are capable of beating them.
“But they are a good team and they are three points off the play-off places so there is a lot to fight for for both teams.”
Wright looks set to have a fully-fit squad to choose from on Saturday.
But the Steelmen will be hit hard in the important games to come.
Anton Brown will miss the matches against fellow strugglers AFC Telford United and Hednesford Town as well as leaders Solihull Moors after he was sent off during last weekend’s 4-1 home loss to North Ferriby.
And Massiah McDonald picked up his 10th booking of the season in the 2-1 loss at Fylde in midweek, meaning he will miss the games with Hednesford and Solihull due to a two-match ban.
“Everyone is fit and available for this weekend,” Wright added.
“But the one issue we do have ahead of us is a couple of suspensions.
“Massiah came on in midweek and got a silly booking, which means he is now banned for two matches later this month.
“And Anton will miss three for his red card last weekend and two of those will be AFC Telford and Hednesford. It’s frustrating but we have to deal with the situation.”
