Tommy Wright is hoping fans will pack into Steel Park this weekend as Corby Town play host to “some of the best young players in Europe”.

Following from the success of last year’s event, the Steel Park Cup takes place again tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday.

A PSV Eindhoven XI, a Newcastle United XI and a Leeds United XI will join the Steelmen for the two-day competition as Wright’s team continue their preparations for the forthcoming Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division campaign.

Two games will be staged on both days with PSV taking on Leeds at midday on Saturday before Corby play Newcastle at 3.30pm.

And, 24 hours later, Newcastle face PSV (midday) with the tournament culminating with the Steelmen going up against Leeds (3.30pm).

Wright said: “The club have really backed me with it.

“Last year we spent a lot of money getting Porto, PSV and Liverpool and we got 1,000 fans in on the Sunday. I want to beat that.

“Every man who has a son who has got any aspirations of being a professional footballer needs to get themselves over to Steel Park at the weekend because their lads need to see what it takes to get there.

“PSV brought 12 international players here last year and five of them are now with their first team.

“It’s too easy to turn around and say ‘it’s only under-21 teams’. These are some of the best young players in Europe and they are at Steel Park.

“I don’t think people realise how lucky we are to host it so we need them to come out and support it.”

The Steelmen are also set to unveil their new home and away kits for the new season over the course of the weekend.

Adult tickets are priced at £15 per day or £25 for the entire weekend while children under-16 will be admitted for £5 per day.
