The heavy rain has wiped out the local New Year’s Day football action.

Corby Town’s Calor League Premier Division clash with second-placed Cambridge City was postponed due to waterlogging at Steel Park.

And the same fate fell on Kettering Town as their Division One Central derby at Daventry Town was also called off, despite early hopes that the game might go ahead.

The only scheduled game in the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division - the reverse fixture between AFC Rushden & Diamonds and Wellingborough Town - was postponed on New Year’s Eve for the same reasons.

And a blank day for the county’s teams was confirmed when Northampton Town’s game with Sky Bet League Two leaders Chesterfield was also postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Sixfields.
