Andy Peaks felt AFC Rushden & Diamonds produced the “perfect away performance” as they maintained their push at the top of the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central table with a 1-0 success at Petersfield Town.
Claudiu Hoban’s goal two minutes from full-time secured another three points for Peaks’ side to keep them in second spot, just a point behind leaders St Ives Town who visit the Dog & Duck for a top-of-the-table showdown on Tuesday night.
And the Diamonds boss was full of praise for his players.
“It was a perfect away performance,” Peaks said.
“We defended well when we had to, we restricted them to few opportunities and then we looked dangerous going forward.
“It was always going to be tough down there and the conditions made things even harder.
“I am just really pleased with the way we dealt with the game.
“We had to wait for the goal but when it came, it was a great strike from Claudiu.
“It would have been a good point on the road but to get three in the end was fantastic for us.”
Peaks handed defender Edi Appleton and midfielder Lewis Leslie their first starts for the club after both had come on as substitutes during last Tuesday’s 7-1 victory over Leighton Town.
And he was impressed with the way both performed.
“Edi and Lewis both did well for us,” he added.
“They played a part in the win last Tuesday and they have fitted into the group really well.
“We defended well as a unit and that gave us the chance to go and win the game.”
