Andy Peaks is hoping to complete the signing of frontman Courtney Herbert after he played a starring role in AFC Rushden & Diamonds’ opening friendly at the weekend.
The former Northampton Town striker has been training with Diamonds in pre-season as they build up to the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central campaign.
Herbert scored the first and then set up the second for Liam Dolman as Diamonds began their friendly programme with a 2-0 success at UCL Division One side Rushden & Higham United in the Chris Ruff Memorial Cup on Saturday.
Boss Peaks has also confirmed his interest in former King’s Lynn Town winger Steve Spriggs who featured in the game while he was also impressed with the contribution of ex-Northampton Town youngster Kieran Fitzgerald.
Diamonds’ build-up continues tomorrow (Tuesday) night when they head to Northampton Spencer while their league fixtures for next season will be released at 9am on Thursday morning.
And Peaks said: “I am confident we will get Courtney on board.
“He seems to have the bit between his teeth at the moment and he looked very dangerous on Saturday.
“He is a good player and he showed that at the weekend, hopefully we can sign him up and I am sure he could play a big role for us.
“We are looking at the two wide players as well. They both did well in the game and we will see what we can do to bring them in.”
As far as the first friendly outing of the summer went, Peaks added: “It went pretty much how we planned it and now we have games coming thick and fast.
“I was quite pleased with how it went, we had a lot of the play and we wanted to get off to a winning start, which is what we did.”
