AFC Rushden & Diamonds suffered a second straight loss in the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central.

After being beaten 2-0 by promotion rivals Chalfont St Peter at the weekend, Diamonds’ hopes of bouncing back were dashed as Egham Town took three points home after a 1-0 win at the Dog & Duck.

Brendan Matthew got the decisive goal after 53 minutes while the closest Diamonds came to scoring was when Richard Bunting’s header from a Tom Berwick cross hit the post.

There was some consolation on a wet and windy night. After Diamonds left the field they found out table-toppers Chalfont St Peter had been beaten 2-0 at Aylesbury.
