Andy Peaks has declared himself happy with his AFC Rushden & Diamonds squad as the new season approaches.

The Diamonds boss has been forced into a mini rebuild of his team ahead of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One South campaign, which gets under way on Saturday with a trip to Newcastle Town.

The club confirmed five new signings following the final pre-season friendly at Hednesford Town at the weekend.

Forwards Nic Evangelinos and Taylor Orosz and defenders Lewis Jackson and Aidan Bradshaw had all played prominent parts for Diamonds pre-season and have now completed deals with the club.

And Peaks also moved to snap up for Daventry Town and Kettering Town midfielder Ross Oulton, who featured for the first time in the 2-0 defeat to the Pitmen on Saturday.

The new arrivals wrap up a busy summer for Peaks but he is content with the additions he has made.

“We had obviously looked at a few of them during pre-season so they have done well and we are glad to have them here,” the Diamonds boss said.

“Ross came along last week and he is a decent player.

“I am really pleased with how the squad has shaped up. I think we are using our resources to the full and, at the moment, I am happy.”

Peaks, meanwhile, was delighted with “a good workout” against higher-ranked Hednesford at the weekend.

“It was a tough game and we did really well, I think 2-0 was a bit flattering on them in the end,” he added.

“We played some good football and we were actually having a really good spell when they scored their first goal.

“But it was a good workout against a team from a higher level and it was perfect for the final friendly.”

Diamonds now know they will face United Counties League Premier Division side Sileby Rangers in the preliminary round of the FA Cup at the Dog & Duck a week on Saturday after the Northampton club beat Leighton Town 2-1 in the extra preliminary round at the weekend.

Diamonds have also confirmed that their away league match at Chasetown, which had been originally scheduled for Christmas Eve, will now be played on Thursday, December 29 with a 7.45pm kick-off.

Meanwhile, Diamonds will take on neighbours Corby Town in the first round of the Northern Premier League’s Integro League Cup.

The tie is due to be played at the Dog & Duck during the week commencing November 14.
