Corby boss Wright hoping for more of the same from returning Carvalho

Tommy Wright is hoping Wilson Carvalho can reproduce his form from last season after the winger returned to Corby Town.

Carvalho played a key role in the Steelmen’s Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division title success with 13 goals in all competitions but turned down a new deal at Steel Park in the summer.

He went on to have trials with Hearts and Yeovil Town before joining Vanarama National League side Braintree Town.

Carvalho also had a spell with Canvey Island after signing for them on a dual registration.

But Wright made his move in a bid to boost his squad, who are severely out of form with no wins in nine matches following their FA Cup exit at Rushall Olympic on Tuesday.

Carvalho will be in the squad for Saturday’s Vanarama National League North trip to North Ferriby United.

And Wright said: “I was desperate to keep him in the summer and I tried very hard to get that done.

“But it wasn’t right for him at the time because I wanted him to commit before we started pre-season.

“He was awaiting the birth of his little girl and he wanted to go and try his hand at the likes of Hearts and Yeovil to see what might happen.

“He’s done that now, it didn’t work out this time and I am delighted he’s come back to us. I think having the rest of this season in the National League North will stand him in good stead.

“I know what I am going to get with Wilson. If you have Greg Mills on one wing and Wilson on the other then you have a threat from both wings.

“He proved last season with the goals he scored and the assists he had that he is capable of making a big impact and we are hoping he can repeat that for us.”
