Jason Lee wants to stay on at Corby Town to play under his “good friend” David Bell.
The central defender played a key role in the Steelmen’s revival in the second half of last season before they were eventually relegated from the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division on the final day of the campaign.
Lee provided one of the moments of the season at Steel Park as his cheeky swig of a fan’s pint after Ben Milnes’ goal against Mickleover Sports was eventually voted as the best celebration of the season in Marathonbet’s #NonLeagueChallenge and earned Corby a cool £10,000 and a pre-season friendly against a team of Premier League legends.
But the defender is already looking ahead to the next campaign and, despite the Steelmen being back at Step Four, he is keen to stay and try to help them bounce back at the first attempt.
“My situation is simple really,” Lee said.
“I came here to help Gary Mills and David Bell out of a situation and now that Belly has taken over, it doesn’t change.
“He’s a good friend of mine, I enjoyed playing at the club last season so I have already told him I will stay if I am wanted.
“I was gutted after the last day and I am still not over it now and I know the other players feel the same.
“I have played at this level that we are going into and it will be tough.
“But if we still have the squad that we finished the season with then we should have a good chance of making the play-offs or even winning the league.”
