Andy Peaks believes AFC Rushden & Diamonds impressive form stretches back further than results would suggest.

Diamonds extended their current unbeaten run to four matches by inflicting a second home league defeat on Aylesbury with a 4-2 success on Saturday.

The victory ensured Peaks’ side remain a point clear of Chalfont St Peter at the top of the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central ahead of next weekend’s trip to Beaconsfield SYCOB.

Peaks’ side went through a sticky spell just before Christmas when they suffered back-to-back losses to fellow high-fliers Chalfont St Peter and Egham Town.

But since then, they have responded with a win at Bedford Town, a draw at Northwood, an 8-1 demolition of North Greenford United and their most recent victory over the Moles.

And Peaks believes his team’s form has been good for most of the season, a statement backed up by their current position.

“We have played well in the last two games but even before then in the games that we lost to Egham and Chalfont, the level of performance was very good,” the Diamonds boss said.

“We just didn’t get much luck in those games. I think we are on a decent run when it comes to the performance levels.

“In fact, we haven’t had many bad displays throughout the whole season and that’s very pleasing.

“We just have to keep going. We can enjoy the win at Aylesbury for now but we will be back on the training ground tomorrow (Tuesday) night to ensure we are ready for Beaconsfield on Saturday because that’s another tough game for us.”
