Aman Verma grabbed his second goal in two games to hand Kettering Town a crucial 1-0 win over Lincoln City at Nene Park.

The opening exchanges were even with Richard Pacquette shooting wide on the turn for the visitors before Danny Mills wasted a good chance for Kettering when he scuffed a shot wide from close range.

Mills headed wide on the half-hour but the Poppies did open the scoring six minutes later when Pacquette was adjudged to have handled on the edge of the area and referee Richard Wigglesworth pointed to the spot.

And Verma stepped up to send Joe Anyon the wrong way from 12 yards.

Lincoln had a golden chance to level before the break, however, when Jake Sheridan exchanged passes with Nicky Nicolau but instead of squaring to the unmarked Pacquette, Sheridan curled a shot high over the bar.

Lincoln started the second half brightly and Jean-Francois Christophe headed straight at Laurie Walker and Pacquette’s long-range shot was deflected over the bar before calls for a penalty were waved away after Jerel Ifil tangled with Pacquette.

But Kettering responded with Patrick Noubissie firing just over the bar before Verma forced Anyon into a fine stop after a neat turn in the area.

However, Lincoln began to look dangerous and Christophe completely missed his header from Simon Russell’s cross before Walker saved well from Pacquette after Russell had done well down the left.

And Pacquette should have equalised with eight minutes to go but he headed straight at Walker from another Russell cross.

Lincoln pushed hard in the final few minutes but the Poppies should have wrapped it up when David Bridges’ low cross found Nathan Ralph and he was only denied by a great save from Anyon.

It didn’t matter though as Kettering easily saw it out to claim another vital win.

It was announced during the game that a fans’ forum will take place in the Kimberley Suite at Nene Park on Friday from 7pm.

It is understood the meeting has not been called by chairman Imraan Ladak but by former director Lee Thorn.
