Dean Thomas will be looking for more of the same when Kettering Town head to Peterborough Northern Star for their second pre-season friendly of the summer tomorrow (Saturday).
The Poppies’ preparations for the Calor League Division One Central campaign began with a 2-1 success at St Neots Town last weekend thanks to goals from Louis Hamilton and Jake Newman.
And Thomas insists there will be no let up from his players when they take on the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division side this weekend.
The Poppies are set to take a squad of around 18 over the Cambridgeshire border and Thomas has promised that every friendly in the build-up will be used as a first-team game.
“It was a good run-out for the lads at St Neots and we managed to give everyone some time on the pitch,” the Kettering manager said.
“As tends to happen, things got a little disjointed in the second half when both sides made changes. But, in general, I thought we did very well.
“It was good for the lads to get out there and play a bit of football. We approached the game in the right way, we set our stall out, we defended well and we took our goals well.
“Winning breeds confidence and winning that game last weekend did us no harm at all.
“This weekend provides another opportunity for the lads to get a game under their belts.
“We will take a squad of about 18 players and it will be the first-team. We don’t have a huge number of trialists with us and it’s good that we can get to work with the players we have already brought in.”
The Poppies take on another UCL Premier Division side next week as they make the short trip to Harborough Town on Tuesday night in a game that has replaced the one at Long Buckby, which was called off earlier this week.
