Captain Richard Bunting scored a dramatic late winner as AFC Rushden & Diamonds stayed on top the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central with a fine 1-0 success at Uxbridge.

Winger Shawn Richards was handed his debut after the club announced his arrival earlier in the day while Liam Dolman returned from suspension and Bunting was declared fit.

Richards went close to a debut goal when his stunning 25-yard strike was tipped onto the bar by Paul McCarthy.

McCarthy made another fine stop from Delroy Gordon before the break with Tommy Berwick unable to turn in the rebound.

In the second half, Brad Harris couldn’t quite convert Claudiu Hoban’s pass while Tom Lorraine shot just wide.

Jon-Jo Bates shot over the hosts but Diamonds won it at the death when Tom Liversedge played through for Bunting who brilliantly lobbed McCarthy from 25 yards.

Rene Howe’s first-half header ensured Kettering Town returned to winning ways in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division as they claimed a 1-0 victory at St Neots Town.

Paul Walker made his first start in goal for the Poppies with Craig Hill dropping to the bench while Dom Langdon returned to the starting line-up in place of Ollie Thorne.

And the Poppies opened the scoring on 19 minutes when a defensive mix-up allowed Howe to head home.

St Neots tried to force the issue in the second half and they had a goal ruled out when Tom Meechan was deemed to have handled the ball and was booked for it.

But that was the only real scare as the Poppies held on for a good victory.

Paul Malone was sent off in his first game back at Steel Park for 10 months as Corby Town were thrashed 4-0 at home by Stockport County in the Vanarama National League North.

Harry Burgoyne made a fine early save from Jonny Margetts after he raced clear on goal before the same player curled another effort wide.

Corby went close before the break with Greg Mills’ shot being spilled by visiting goalkeeper Andreas Arestidou but he recovered well to deny Andre Johnson from the rebound.

But Stockport opened the scoring early in the second half when Karl Ledsham made no mistake by hammering home after being sent clear by Joe Garvin.

And the game was over just before the hour when Malone hauled down Margetts when he was sent clear. The defender was red-carded and Margetts picked himself up to beat Burgoyne from the penalty spot.

It was 3-0 when Kayode Odejayi headed home Danny Morton’s cross and the fourth arrived thanks to another Margetts penalty after he had been brought down by Duane Courtney.
