Kettering Town had an afternoon to forget as they were hammered 7-0 at Gosport Borough in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division.
Manager Alan Doyle handed defender Chris Logan his debut after he joined from Desborough Town earlier this week, although there was no place in the squad for Pat Noubissie who had returned in a Poppies shirt in the 3-1 win over Chesham United.
Both teams had to contend with the heavy rain and a boggy pitch but it was Gosport who had the better of things early on and they took the lead after half-an-hour through Tom Dunford.
It got worse for the visitors on the stroke of half-time when Justin Bennett doubled the home side’s advantage.
And the game was done and dusted early in the second half as Dan Wooding made it 3-0 before Bennett added his second a minute later.
Unfortunately, the punishment didn’t stop there and Bennett completed his hat-trick to make it 5-0 after 59 minutes before Bradley Norton added the sixth with 17 minutes to go.
Sam Wilson got in on the act as he added a seventh and that completed the scoring and a miserable day for the visitors.
Poppies line-up: Nlate, Gyasi, Fox, Crowie, Logan, Eze, King, Hicks, Griffiths, Akinshade, Wilson. Subs: Misambo, Kelly, Glen, Da Rosa, Harpal.
