Kettering Town moved back into the Calor League Division One Central play-off places as they picked up an excellent 3-0 victory at 10-man Egham Town.
The Poppies held a 1-0 lead at half-time thanks to Chris Logan’s goal before the hosts had Marcus Moody sent off early in the second half.
And, despite a few nervy moments, Kettering finished Egham off in the latter stages with Josh Moreman and James Jepson getting on the scoresheet late on.
The victory means the Poppies now sit in fifth place and are two points clear of Barton Rovers from the same number of matches.
Dean Thomas made two changes to the side that came from a goal down to beat AFC Hayes on Tuesday with Jamie McAlindon replacing the suspended Alastair Worby in goal while Elliot Sandy returned to the starting line-up with Louis Hamilton dropping to the bench.
McAlindon was called into action early on when he saved from Joe Chandiram while, at the other end, Dubi Ogbonna wasn’t quite able to finish things off after Sandy had sent over a teasing cross.
But the Poppies did break the deadlock on 27 minutes with the best move of the first half.
Moreman was involved in some good interlink play with James Clifton and the latter’s low cross was drilled home by Logan.
There were few other chances before the break but McAlindon had to be at his best top tip over a fierce strike from Joshua Andrews.
A big turning point came early in the second half as the hosts were reduced to 10 men.
Marcus Moody was booked for a foul and then, just two minutes later, was shown another yellow and subsequent red for dissent.
The Poppies went in search of a second goal to kill the game off and Andy Gooding forced Jamie Norris into a flying save after a cross from Ogbonna.
Norris was quick off his line to deny Moreman but Egham slowly grew back into the game and enjoyed some good possession as the Poppies struggled to keep the ball.
The hosts went close when Reis Stanislaus cut in and saw his shot clip the post.
But Kettering settled the nerves two minutes from the end when Sandy found Moreman, who raced away from Andrews before burying the ball in the corner.
And they weren’t done there as they grabbed the third in stoppage-time when Jepson followed up to score after Moreman’s shot had been saved.
That final outcome may have been a bit harsh on the 10-man hosts but no-one of a Kettering persuasion will be complaining.
They will be looking to tighten their grip on the final play-off place when they head to Aylesbury United for the first part of an Easter double-header on Saturday.
