Kettering Town are set to make a swift decision on trialists who will feature for the club as their pre-season programme swings into action with a quickfire double-header of matches.
The Poppies head to ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division side Oadby Town for their opening friendly tomorrow (Saturday, 3pm).
They had been due to split their squad for two matches but an earlier game at Thurnby Nirvana has now been called off.
It will be the first match action for the first-team squad while some of the club’s under-21s will also be involved along with trialists who have been with the Poppies during the early stages of their preparations for the new Southern League Division One Central campaign.
That game is quickly followed by a short trip to take on UCL Division One side Rothwell Corinthians on Monday night.
And joint-bosses Thomas Baillie and Scott Machin are expecting to make decisions on those who are on trial with the club following that match at Sergeants Lawn.
“The trialists are really keen to impress us,” Baillie said.
“They really want to be at the club they want to do what they can to earn something and push for a first-team spot.
“We have a game on Saturday and then we are at Rothwell Corinthians on Monday.
“So I would think that by the time Monday night comes around, we will have a fair idea of who we will look to keep.
“We have to be fair to the players as well because if we don’t decide to keep them here then they need the time to go and find another club.”
It is not yet clear whether imminent signing Ross Oulton will feature for the Poppies this weekend but summer additions Brett Solkhon and Andy Hall are both expected to make their returns in Kettering shirts across the two matches.
The club, meanwhile, have added another home friendly to their pre-season schedule as they will now take on Oxford City at Latimer Park on Thursday, July 31 (7.30pm).
