Josh Moreman hit a hat-trick as Kettering Town kicked off their pre-season friendly programme with a 6-2 victory at Oadby Town.

The Poppies were forced to play goalkeeping coach Nathan Marsh between the sticks with Alastair Worby (work commitments) and Jamie McAlindon (knee injury) ruled out.

Henry Eze and Dan Crowie were also missing while Jonathon Thorpe has been ruled out for four weeks due to a facial injury.

But the game did see former Daventry Town midfielder Ross Oulton make his debut in a Poppies shirt while summer signings Brett Solkhon and Andy Hall also featured.

The Poppies fell behind to Rob Morgan’s early goal but trialist and former Corby Town striker Avelino Vieira levelled from the penalty spot before Moreman’s first of the game gave them a half-time lead.

Moreman completed his treble inside the first 10 minutes of the second half before Andy Gooding and Nat Liburd rounded things off, although Morgan did add a late consolation for the hosts.

Kettering are straight back into friendly action tomorrow (Monday) night when they make the short trip to Rothwell Corinthians.

Elsewhere, AFC Rushden & Diamonds opened their friendly programme with a 2-0 success at Rushden & Higham United thanks to Russ Dunkley’s second-half brace.

Desborough Town thrashed Raunds Town 6-1 and Irchester United went down 5-3 at Bugbrooke.
