Kettering Town slipped to their second defeat of the season in the Southern League Division One Central as they squandered a 2-1 lead to lose 3-2 at Marlow.

The Poppies were trailing 1-0 before Steve Kinniburgh and Andy Hall gave them the lead.

However, the hosts battled back and grabbed a last-minute winner to complete the success.

The Poppies were forced into one change from the team that beat Aylesbury in the FA Cup last weekend with Louis Hamilton replacing the injured Jonathon Thorpe.

It was a bright start with Kettering knocking the ball around well but the only saves of note actually came from Jamie McAlindon as he twice denied Lee Barney.

Kettering had a decent shout for a penalty when Craig Scott appeared to foul James Clifton but no decision was forthcoming.

And the Poppies finished the half the strong with Brett Solkhon’s header being saved by Oneal Garnes while Clifton was unable to convert after things opened up for him.

Solkhon and Hall were both denied by Garnes before the break but disaster struck for the Poppies nine minutes into the second half when they fell behind.

A corner wasn’t cleared properly and it allowed Devontae Romeo the chance to hook the ball home.

Josh Moreman was thrown on from the bench in place of Ash Robinson as Kettering switched to a 4-4-2 formation but the visitors could have gone further behind when Andy Gooding’s poor pass allowed Jake Parrott to go clear. However, Tommy Hull came to the rescue as deflected the ball away.

And Kettering took advantage of that as they drew level thanks to a 25-yard thunderbolt from Kinniburgh after he had driven forward.

Just eight minutes later, the turnaround was complete as a long pass from Gooding released Hall and he let fly from 20 yards with the shot finding the bottom corner.

But, almost immediately, Marlow were level as the visiting defence stood off Jordace Holder-Spooner and his cross-shot left McAlindon rooted to the spot.

Substitute Alfie Taylor was denied by a block from Scott and the Poppies were given a warning of what was to come when McAlindon was forced into a fine save from Romeo.

But Marlow did grab the winner in the final minute when Scott bundled the ball home from a cross.
