Kettering Town beat Barwell 2-1 in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division to register just their second win of the season.

The Poppies, who were thrashed 7-0 by Gosport at the weekend, put in a much-improved performance.

Lewis Wilson put Kettering in front only for Kevin Charley to pull Barwell level before the break.

Wilson restored the advantage for Alan Doyle’s men and set them towards a second three points of the season.

When Barwell were awarded a late penalty it seemed those hopes were set to be dashed, though.

However, goalkeeper Yannick Niate saved the spot kick and the Poppies held on for a win that takes their points tally into a plus at long last.
