Kettering Town earned their third win in a week with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Aylesbury at Latimer Park.
Goals from Josh Moreman, Dubi Ogbonna and Andy Gooding ensured that the Poppies maintained their push for the Calor League Division One Central play-off places.
But with Barton Rovers winning 1-0 at Ashford, the gap remains at three points with six games remaining.
This afternoon, both sides had chances in the first half but it was the hosts who made the breakthrough five minutes before the break when Moreman latched on to a Elliot Sandy flick, eased past two defenders and found the bottom corner.
Having been far from their best, the Poppies upped a gear in the second period and got an almost immediate reward two minutes after the restart when Gooding netted from the penalty spot after Jonathan Thorpe had been felled by Ben Stevens.
After Henry Eze had squandered a free header at the back post, Aylesbury had an effort cleared off the line by the pair of Alastiar Worby and James Clifton.
Ogbonna then entered the fray in place of the injured Ash Fuller and it was the substitute who made the game safe midway through the half when he headed home from a Moreman cross, enabling the remaining 20 minutes to be played out in relative ease.
Next up for Dean Thomas’ side is a trip to Egham on Tuesday before the current leaders Dunstable are the visitors next weekend.
