Having made wholesale changes to his squad in November last year, Law’s Poppies enjoyed a fine second half of the season as they narrowly missed out on a play-off place in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division.

But, as he begins the task of retaining the current squad and then adding to it over the summer, Law has admitted he wants to “achieve a lot next year”.

The Poppies rounded off their season with a 2-1 defeat to AFC Rushden & Diamonds in the NFA Hillier Senior Cup final at Sixfields on Thursday night.

But Law already has his eyes locked on a promotion challenge in the Southern League once the new campaign gets under way in August.

He is hopeful of keeping the vast majority of the current squad and insists the end of June, when the Poppies will return for pre-season training, can’t come quick enough.

“From where we were in November to where we are now, we are in a positive placem” Law said.

“We are in the right place after our first year together.

“The majority of the squad from the other night is who we want to keep and I am looking forward to bringing the new additions that we have got planned.

“The end of June can’t come quick enough for me now because I want to get everything sorted so that we can hit the ground running, which is something we didn’t do last season.

“When we talk about retained lists it’s not contractual, a lot of them are non-contract and we could go and make a load of agreements now and then come the registration deadline someone could come in and take them,

“But everyone you have seen of late, I will be looking to secure and keep them on.

“And I will be looking to strengthen so there is pressure on certain positions because I want to achieve a lot next year.

“I have got to achieve the priority of getting promoted. That’s the remit of my tenure.

“That’s what we have got to do so I have got to get the personnel to do it and make sure we have the depth in the squad.

“I think the additions we are trying to get will put us in a good position for next season.”
