Scott Machin has urged his Kettering Town players to keep the pressure on the teams around them as they prepare for a top-of-the-table clash this weekend.
The Poppies put their FA Trophy exit at Mickleover Sports last weekend behind them as they moved back to the summit in the Southern League Division One Central with a 3-2 success over Barton Rovers on Tuesday night.
But it wasn’t always plain sailing in midweek and joint-boss Machin knows his team will need to be better when they take on fourth-placed Godalming Town at Latimer Park tomorrow (Saturday).
He said: “Every team that comes to our ground will make it hard for us.
“They lift their game when they play against Kettering because of the name of the club more than anything else.
“We get fantastic support, which other teams aren’t used to so it makes it a big game for some clubs.
“It will be no different on Saturday. Godalming will come here and think they have an opportunity to upset us.
“We have to make sure we are on our mettle and ensure we are a lot better than we were on Tuesday.
“We have to maintain the pressure on teams around us.
“Everybody has had good spells where they have been on decent runs and everyone has had their slip-ups.
“We have to make sure we negate those slip-ups and turn any potential losses into at least a point.
“It was disappointing to go out of the FA Trophy last weekend but we have got to concentrate on the league now, that’s all we can deal with.
“Our ultimate gain is to make sure we are there or thereabouts at the end of the season.”
