Scott Machin wants Kettering Town to take the “great opportunity” that lies in front of them in the FA Cup this weekend.
The Poppies take on their Southern League Division One Central rivals Chalfont St Peter at Latimer Park in the second qualifying round tomorrow (Saturday).
Kettering go into the clash having suffered their second defeat of the league season when they went down 3-2 at Marlow last weekend before a youthful line-up were well beaten 4-0 by Corby Town in the NFA Hillier Senior Cup on Tuesday night.
But they remain on top of the league table and, with the pressures of a bid for promotion put aside for the weekend, joint-boss Machin is keen for his players to bounce back in style and book a place in Monday’s third qualifying round draw.
“You can’t ask for more than a home draw against a team from your own league,” Machin said.
“We have got to make sure we have the right attitude and we have got to bounce back from a defeat.
“Last time we had one, we did that but there is a bit of extra pressure on the boys to make sure they come back from it.
“I am sure there will be a big crowd, it should be a good atmosphere and the aim is to get through to the next round.
“To a certain extent, you can afford to go out there and express yourselves a bit more because the pressure isn’t on you as much as it is in the league.
“But we want to progress to the next round and it is a great opportunity to do that.
“The FA Cup can create a really good buzz around the place for the supporters and the staff. It’s important we do all we can to get the win.”
