With the Poppies’ Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division campaign petering out, the teenager is being given a chance to shine.

He made his full debut for the club in the 3-0 defeat at Leamington on March 7 and then produced an impressive display in the 1-0 victory over Brackley Town in the semi-finals of the NFA Hillier Senior Cup last week.

O’Connor also played 90 minutes in the 3-3 draw at Frome Town on Saturday.

Boss Law felt the youngster grew into the contest and while he knows there is much more for him to learn, he believes his progression is a good sign for the club.

“I am really pleased with Jack’s progression, he has done well in the appearances he has made,” the Poppies boss said.

“Again, I think he grew into the game on Saturday and that’s what you would expect.

“Frome played on him, you could see that and you can understand it.

“He played in defence and then we shifted him into the midfield and he did well in there again.

“He is very young so he does, of course, still have plenty to learn. But the way he is progressing is pleasing to see.”

The Poppies return to action on Saturday when they head to rock-bottom Cinderford Town.
