Marcus Law believes Kettering Town will be in for a “fantastic challenge” when they head to Poole Town on the opening day of the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division season.

The fixtures were released for next season this morning and the Poppies were handed a tough start as they will travel to Tatnam on Saturday, August 8 and to the scene of Corby Town’s dramatic title success back in April.

Having led the table for the majority of the season, Poole were pipped at the post by Kettering’s Northamptonshire rivals before going on to lose to St Neots Town in the play-offs.

Last season’s Division One Central champions’ tough start is furthered by successive home clashes with Redditch United and Merthyr Town before they head to Leamington - relegated from National League North in the last campaign.

The festive season brings a trip to King’s Lynn Town on Boxing Day while the Poppies will host Bedworth United on January 2.

And their season will be rounded off by another long journey when they head to Dorchester Town.

But it’s that opening-day clash at Poole that really catches the eye.

And boss Law said: “It is going to be great for our fans because I am sure they will go there and make the weekend of it.

“It will be a fantastic challenge for us. They led the table all the way throughout last season and will be one of the favourites again.

“We will certainly find out about ourselves and see where we are on that first day.

“It is a big trip first up and we will look forward to planning it correctly and professionally.

“The fixture list is what it is. I think it looks like a pretty tough start for us.

“We are still evolving at this moment in time but we will keep our focus and look forward to the start of the season.”

The Poppies, meanwhile, have been drawn away to Stratford Town in the first round of next season’s Red Insure Cup.

The tie at The DCS Stadium will be played on Tuesday, October 13 (7.45pm).
