Former Histon defender Matt Langston was one of a number of trialists who featured in Kettering Town’s penultimate pre-season friendly at Solihull Moors.
The centre-back, famous for scoring the goal that saw Histon knock Leeds United out of the FA Cup in 2008, captained the Poppies as they suffered a 3-1 defeat to the Blue Square Bet North side at Damson Park.
Michael King was the only contracted player to complete 90 minutes for Kettering while the only other one to feature was goalkeeper Laurie Walker, who came on as a substitute.
It appears manager John Beck is continuing a late scramble to bring in further players after another difficult summer at Nene Park ahead of the first Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division game of the season at Weymouth on Saturday.
Gavin Hurren put Solihull in front but the Poppies levelled before half-time through Robert Peake.
However, two second-half penalties from Hurren completed his hat-trick and the scoring.
The Poppies round off their pre-season campaign with a home clash against Rotherham United at Nene Park on Tuesday night.
