Kettering Town’s recent good form in the Calor League Division One Central continued at Latimer Park as Louis Hamilton’s first-half goal sealed a 1-0 success over Egham Town.
There was some breaking news before the game as club captain Brad Piercewright announced on Twitter that he had left the club while also having a few choice words in the direction of the Kettering management.
But the Poppies enjoyed a decent start and they went in front after 10 minutes when Hamilton nipped in front of the last defender and went round goalkeeper Gary Ross before tapping home.
And Kettering had the chance to go 2-0 up when Will Muzvimbiri won a penalty when he was brought down by Ross. But the striker was unable to finish the job from the spot as Ross made amends with a good save.
However, that first-half strike from Hamilton proved to be enough after a goalless second period.
Poppies line-up: Horton, Thorpe, Kinniburgh, Gooding, Eze, Hull, Hamilton, Jepson, Newman, Muzvimbiri, Fuller. Subs: Foster, Bukasa, Logan, Akubuine, Joseph.
