Dean Thomas has secured his first new signing for Kettering Town in the form of Mark Hackett.
The midfielder was with ChromaSport & Trophies UCL Premier Division side Stewarts & Lloyds during last season and has previously played for Corby Town and Rothwell Town.
But Thomas has confirmed Hackett has agreed to join the Poppies for next season’s Southern League Division One Central campaign after the club were placed in that division by the FA last week. The position is set to be ratified at the Southern League’s annual meeting on June 15.
Thomas confirmed two more members of last season’s squad have also agreed to stay on for the new campaign.
Defender Dan Crowie and midfielder Chris Logan have joined goalkeeper Michael Quirke in committing themselves to the club.
But Thomas also revealed that Nathan Hicks, who ended last season as Kettering’s captain, is set to have pre-season trials with Blue Square Bet North side Histon.
The Poppies boss said: “Nathan has got the chance to train with Histon and I don’t blame him for taking that up.
“I am pleased to get Mark on board. He is experienced at the level we are going into.
“I am having meetings all the time. I have spoken to a left-back recently and I will be speaking to others at the weekend.
“We would all like to sign players tomorrow but there is plenty of time and we are happy to be patient.”
Thomas, meanwhile, has urged caution after the Poppies had their league for next season all-but confirmed.
“We can’t take anything for granted,” he added.
“There will be teams in there who will spend a bit of money and we are not in the land of milk and honey anymore. We have to recognise that fact.
“We will go about our business quietly and try to put a solid squad together.
“There won’t be any shouting from the rooftops as far as I am concerned.”
