Dubi Ogbonna believes Kettering Town have a “massive chance” of claiming a Calor League Division One Central play-off place.
The 22-year-old striker has become an instant hit with the Poppies faithful after he followed a goal on his debut in last weekend’s 2-1 home success over Uxbridge with the hat-trick which secured a 3-1 victory at Marlow on Tuesday.
That latest win, which extended Kettering’s unbeaten run in all competitions to nine matches, sent them into seventh place in the table ahead of this Saturday’s trip to Aylesbury.
And, with plenty of time still to run in the campaign, the former St Ives Town man is sure his new club can make an impact on the top five.
“We have a good team here, which is capable of finishing high up the league,” he said.
“There are still a lot of games to be played and every team will drop points along the way. Hopefully we won’t drop as many as everyone else.
“We want to keep the unbeaten run going for as long as we can and I feel we have a massive chance of finishing in the play-offs.”
Ogbonna admits he couldn’t have wished to begin life at Latimer Park in finer fashion after joining from Poppies’ league rivals St Ives.
And he has hopes of playing at a higher level, something he hopes to achieve with Kettering.
“I don’t think I could have asked for a better start,” he added. “When the opportunity to come here was presented to me, it looked like a good one.
“I hope I can help get Kettering back up the levels.
“I know the manager felt the team were lacking a few goals and I guess that puts a bit of pressure on me. But I don’t mind that. My job is to score goals and I put pressure on myself to do that.
“It’s been a good start. I feel I have worked hard and the lads have worked hard to create the chances for me. Hopefully it will continue.”
