Dubi Ogbonna continued his incredible start to life at Kettering Town with a second successive hat-trick as the Poppies extended their unbeaten run to 10 matches with a 3-1 success at Aylesbury.
Ogbonna has now hit seven goals in three games since joining from St Ives Town and has helped move Dean Thomas’ side into the upper reaches of the Calor League Division One Central.
Henry Eze was back in the Poppies starting line-up after missing the midweek win at Marlow after missing his train ahead of the game.
And Jonathon Thorpe was also brought back into the side following a media ligament injury while Jake Newman was handed a start in place of Deqwon Ebanks with Rob Foster also returning on the substitutes’ bench.
The Poppies were forced into an early change when Harry Beckley replaced Chimdi Akubuine, who suffered concussion.
But Kettering took the lead four minutes before the break when Beckley’s pass was converted by Ogbonna with a low finish.
However, the lead only lasted two minutes when Jamie Rudd fired high into the net from Aston Goss’ cross.
But the Poppies regained the lead 12 minutes into the second half and it was Ogbonna again who pounced to head home after James Jepson’s shot rebounded back to him.
And his second hat-trick in four days was completed three minutes from full-time when he capitalised on a defensive error before lashing the ball home.
Poppies: Hinds, Akubuine, Kinniburgh, Logan, Eze, Hull, Thorpe, Jepson, Ogbonna, Newman, Fuller. Subs: Ebanks, Beckley, Foster, Gooding, Bukasa.
