Corinthians secure their status while the battle for promotion in Division One continues

Rothwell Corinthians confirmed their ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division status for another season with a fine 3-0 victory over Eynesbury Rovers at Sergeants Lawn.

All the damage was done in the first half as Calum McNicol opened the scoring before Jordan Henson made it 2-0 six minutes before the break.

And McNicol’s second on the stroke of half-time wrapped up a fifth win in six matches for Shaun Sparrow’s team.

The battle for the second promotion place in Division One looks set to go to the wire after Stewarts & Lloyds returned to winning ways.

While second-placed ON Chenecks were beating Thrapston Town 3-0 thanks to goals from Ben Lewington and Adam Spalding (2), the Foundrymen won by the same scoreline against Blackstones at Occupation Road.

Mark Forbes and David Sheridan gave S&L a 2-0 lead at the break with Jamie O’Neill rounding things off in the second half.

S&L have four games to play, one more than Chenecks, and remain four points behind their rivals.

Elsewhere, Raunds Town claimed a 4-2 success at Buckingham Town.

Dave Townsend’s first-half strike for the Shopmates was cancelled out by Jeremiah Adams but Marc Harrison made it 2-1 to Raunds just past the hour.

Jamie Russell and Townsend were on target late on to secure the points while Lukasz Filipiak scored a last-minute consolation for the hosts.

Whitworth were also impressive winners on the road as they claimed a 2-1 success at Oakham United.

All the goals came in the second half with a Jonny Hazell double sealing the points for the Flourmen after Stewart Lambie had given Oakham the lead.

Rushden & Higham United were on the wrong end of a 5-3 scoreline as they were beaten at Lutterworth Athletic.

The hosts raced into a 2-0 lead through Sam Burton and Sam Young, only for Lewis O’Dell to haul the Lankies level with a brace.

Alex Rhodes regained the lead for Lutterworth and then Burton scored twice in nine minutes in the second half as they pulled away. Dylan Wilson grabbed Rushden’s third goal but there was to be no fightback.

Irchester Sports were put to the sword by champions Peterborough Sports who ran out 7-1 winners at Alfred Street.

Sports were 6-0 up at half-time thanks to Josh Moreman, Dan Clements and two goals each for Avelino Vieira and Jordan Macleod.

Jake Reynolds got the Romans on the scoresheet in the second period but Vieira had the final as he completed his hat-trick and the scoring.

Rock-bottom Burton Park Wanderers slipped to a 27th defeat in 31 league matches as Olney Town claimed a 3-0 success at Latimer Park.
