COBBLERS boss Aidy Boothroyd has spoken of his delight at the signing of former Oxford United, Hearts and Millwall winger Chris Hackett.

The player will join Northampton Town on a two-year contract with effect from August 1st 2012.

Hackett started his career with Oxford where he made his debut in April 2000.

In January 2006 he joined Scottish Premier League club Hearts in a £20,000 deal, but just eight months later he signed for Millwall.

He he was a key part of their promotion campaign via the play-offs in 10.

While with Millwall, he enjoyed loan spells with Exeter City and Wycombe Wanderers, before being released from the New Den at the end of last season.

“Chris is a signing I am very pleased to make,” said boss Aidy Boothroyd.

“He is someone I have tracked for a while and is another player who has played regularly at a higher level. He has a very good pedigree, and he will bring experience, pace and guile to the squad.

“I am very much looking forward to working with him and like the other players who have come in so far this summer, I am sure he will prove a good signing for us.”
