Furious Aidy Boothroyd said he was the ‘most annoyed he has been’ this season after watching his Cobblers side slump to the bottom of the Football League with defeat at Plymouth Argyle.

For the fourth time this season, Town were defeated with a goal in the final minute of a game, with Lewis Alessandra scoring dead on 90 minutes to secure a 1-0 win for the Pilgrims.

The result, combined with an Accrington equaliser against Wycombe Wanderers deep into injury time, means Northampton are now rock bottom of Sky Beat League Two.

And Boothroyd said: “This is the most annoyed I have been. There is no worse time to lose a game than in the 90th minute.

“It’s all our own doing, it’s our choice to concede these goals, and it is absolutely sickening.

“I’m really irritated with these defeats we’re getting in the last five minutes. I don’t come in to work to get beat in the last five minutes of games.

“We stuck to the game plan, it was just like at Rochdale, we saw it out for long periods but we’re not tough enough to see these games out at the moment.

“We should have got a point in this game and we threw it away.”
