Alex Wakely believes David Ripley is a good choice to take over as head coach at Northamptonshire.
Ripley has taken over on an interim basis following David Capel’s departure and stand-in captain Wakely is sure he’ll adapt well to the role.
He said: “Rips will bring a fresh approach and do the job with a smile on his face.
“There’s enough experience in the squad to mean that he can come in and oversee things without having to do too much and he’s a good man for the job.
“He’s been at the club for a long time so he knows what is going on.”
With Ripley moving into the senior position, Phil Rowe will assume control of second team affairs and Wakely hopes that they can be a success.
He added: “I wish both of them all the best. They’ve got the full respect of all the players.”
And Wakely had words of thanks for the departed Capel who gave him his chance in the first class game.
“Capes got me on board with the Academy and then got me involved with the first team,” he continued.
“He always wanted the younger players to do well, that was no different with me, and the same went for the club.
“He’d been there ever since I have and I’m as shocked as anyone.
“I’ve got the utmost respect for what he’s done for me.”
