Matthew Spriegel got his Northamptonshire career off to a promising start on day two of the pre-season tour opener.

The off-season recruit from Surrey hit 66 as the County enjoyed a days batting against Derbyshire.

In reply to the Peakites’ 313-9, the County made 321 for the loss of 10 wickets in their allocation.

Rob Keogh was also in the runs with an unbeaten 55 while Ben Duckett hit an undefeated 42 after being given the opportunity for a second innings.

Next up for the County is the Barbados Twenty20 Cup, which is being played at the famous Kensington Oval, over the weekend.
