Northamptonshire chief executive David Smith insists there are no hitches regarding starlet Ben Duckett’s contract.
The 17-year-old was offered a deal by the County a couple of months ago but, as yet, has not put pen to paper.
Smith, however, is happy to stop whispers regarding any problems and is certain the exciting wicketkeeper-batsman will soon be committed to the club.
“There are no issues – Ben will sign,” the chief executive stated.
“We have no concerns, there are no obstacles and we are expecting to get it all sorted imminently.
“The only reason it has not been done already is logistics.
“He has been in Australia with England Under-19s and now he is back at school.
“Because he is only 17 we have to get both his parents to sign the contract and getting everyone together in one place to sort it all out has not been easy.
“He is an outstanding young cricketer and he knows how highly thought of he is by us.
“With us allowing Niall O’Brien to talk to other counties he also knows that we are keen to make sure his pathway to the first-team cricket is not blocked.
“He is happy to sign for us and hopefully it will all be completed very soon.”
