Play on day three in the game between Northamptonshire and Sri Lanka has been abandoned for the day.

Heavy morning rain meant that the County Ground was left in no fit state and an inspection by the umpires, Paul Pollard and Steve O’Shaughnessy, shortly after midday brought a decisive decision that no play would be possible.

The home side will resume their first innings on the final day, which will start 30 minutes earlier at 10.30am, on 146-5.
