Ben Howgego has been released by Northamptonshire.
The 24-year-old, who has been at the County Ground since 2008, becomes the second batsman to leave the staff following Rob White’s departure.
During his time with the club, Howgego made 21 first-class appearances, scoring 670 runs at an average of 21.61 with a highest score of 80.
But with the emergence of Rob Newton and Alex Wakely and the signing of Kyle Coetzer, he has found his oppotunities limited and has only appeared in one County Championship game this season.
Speaking about the decision to let Howgego leave, chief executive David Smith said: “He’s found his chances limited and we need to maximise our squad as well as we can.
“Ben hasn’t been able to find a place in the side and unfortunately it’s one of those things that happen in cricket.”
