David Hartley has been elected as the new chairman of the Northamptonshire Cricket League.

He replaces his long-serving predecessor John Hodges who decided to stand down after 12 years in the position.

Overstone Park chairman Hartley was elected unopposed at the league’s annual meeting last night.

He said: “The NCL would not be where it is without the hard work of John Hodges.

“It is a sad day given John has decided to sever all association and involvement with our league.

“I would have liked John to remain involved and enjoy a handover period to facilitate a smooth transition.

“We must respect John’s decision and draw a line under the past and push ahead in shaping the future.

“I believe there will be many new initiatives and, by involving representatives from all clubs, they should reflect the opinion of clubs from all divisions.

“The future of the NCL is very important to me and I’m very honoured, excited and confident we can accomplish the needs, wants and desires of every club.”

Due to the change in committee several voting issues were unresolved and an extra-ordinary meeting is to be held in January.
