Andrew Hall has set his sights on returning to first team action next Friday when Northamptonshire host Derbyshire in the Clydesdale Bank 40.
The captain has been on the sidelines with a calf injury in recent weeks and although there was a slim chance that he would be in the frame for tonight’s Friends Life t20 trip to Worcester, a more cautious approach is being taken.
He said: “My next game, hopefully, will be for the seconds next week with a view to playing in the CB40 game on Friday.
“I wasn’t in the team for the seconds’ game this week as the decision was taken to postpone my return for another week.
“We’re going in the right direction but it’s been a bit slower than we thought and we’ve had to be cautious because I don’t want to rush back without it being right.
“I’ve been practicing and training hard and it’s getting better but it’s not quite right yet.”
And Hall has stated that he is hoping to use the games next week as a fitness test ahead of the crucial County Championship clash with Glamorgan that gets under way next Saturday.
He added: “I’ve got to be able to show that I’m fit enough to get through a four-day game.
“That is where our priority is now and it’s taken over from the other two competitions for the rest of the season.”
