There has been a change of captain at Finedon Dolben and the new man wants a change in approach.

Chris Goode is back for a second stint at the helm at Avenue Road, replacing Andy Daniels who stood down after two seasons.

Finedon have gone two years without silverware – a barren spell by their standards – and Goode wants to rectify that this year.

First up is the visit of Stony Stratford and the captain wants his men to display a more ruthless approach to their cricket.

He said: “I think we’ve been a bit too friendly and we need to show a bit more aggression with the ball and more grit when we’re batting.

“It’s all about taking your opportunity when you get it and killing games off.

“We haven’t been doing that and the fact we haven’t won the league for a couple of years might make the players a bit hungrier.”

Defending champions Peterborough get their year under way against Rushton at Bretton Gate and Oundle are on the road at Northampton Saints.

Wollaston visit Old Northamptonians, Burton Latimer host Horton House and new boys Rushden entertain Brixworth.

In Division One, an old rivalry resumes at Desborough Road this weekend as Rothwell face Desborough in a league game for the first time since 2004.

Richard Panter’s side, promoted as Division Two champions last time out, have been given a tasty reintroduction to life a level higher.

And Panter, the first man to captain both sides in this derby fixture, can’t wait to get stuck in.

He said: “This game seems to have got everybody talking and I’ve even been stopped a couple of times in the street by people asking about it.

“It means a lot to me as I’ve played for both clubs and I’d be lying if I said it was the same as every other game.

“There will definitely be a bit of spice there and we’re really looking forward to it.”

Elsewhere in the division, new boys Isham get their season off to a start with the visit of Finedon 2nd.

Wellingborough, who were relegated from the top flight, entertain Old Northamptonians 2nd and Geddington host Old Wellingburians.

Irthlingborough are on home turf against Peterborough 2nd and Weekley & Warkton travel to Loddington.
