Kyle Coetzer says there is no reason why Leicestershire Foxes can’t do his side a favour in the Natwest t20 Blast on Sunday.

The Steelbacks, as a result of their 31-run defeat to Worcestershire Rapids, need the Foxes to triumph at Trent Bridge if they are to take their hopes of qualification into their final two North group outings.

Coetzer, when asked if the Foxes are capable of downing their east midlands neighbour, said “Why not?

“Leicestershire down the years have been a very good Twenty20 team and they’ve made finals day a number of times.

“They’ve got some exciting players who can maybe take the game away. it only takes one player to take a game away from a team in this competition.”

As for this evening’s reverse, Coetzer had words of praise for the opposition, adding: “They won the game, they had two guys who nullified the spin by switch-hitting and that makes you start thinking about your other options.

“I thought 135 or 140 was about right but it was down to them as they played really well.”

With regards to his own charges, Coetzer was left to rue the lack of a finisher in the middle order, a problem that has plagued the side throughout their campaign.

“Cameron White has been a big miss and so has Alex Wakely,” he said.

“We’ve had guys going into those positions and not having as much success so they’ve been two very big holes to fill.

“We’ve faced that problem a couple of times where nobody has gone through. Obviously it’s a very difficult skill in Twenty20 cricket knowing how you go through and keep the run rate down.

“It’s a tough one to judge and manage. In the end we needed one man to get a 60 or 70 and we’d have been right in there at the end.”
