Jack Brooks has been left out of the England Lions squad for their upcoming ‘Test’ series with Australia A.
The Northants seamer has been struggling with an Achilles injury in recent weeks and is unlikely to be fit for next week’s County Championship clash with Yorkshire.
And with a return date unconfirmed, there is no place for him in the 13-man squad that was named today (Thursday).
The injury has come at an inconvenient time for Brooks who made a good impression for the Lions when they beat the West Indies at Northampton in May.
And County interim head coach David Ripley stated that he isn’t sure when Brooks will be fit to resume his new ball duties.
He said: “I’ve not had any dialogue with anyone from the Lions but they often go directly to the physios.
“Jack’s a long shot for Yorkshire next week and we hope that he will be fit for the following four-day game although that isn’t definite.”
Eoin Morgan has been named as captain for the two games with the tourists, the first of which takes place at Old Trafford on August 7, with the second at Edgbaston on August 14.
England Lions squad: Eoin Morgan (Middlesex), Jonny Bairstow (Yorkshire), Matt Coles (Kent), Nick Compton (Somerset), James Harris (Glamorgan), Simon Kerrigan (Lancashire), Craig Kieswetter (wkt) (Somerset), Stuart Meaker (Surrey), Samit Patel (Nottinghamshire), Joe Root (Yorkshire), James Taylor (Nottinghamshire), James Tredwell (Kent), Chris Woakes (Warwickshire).
