Permit plans is parking mad

One has to have some sympathy with the letter from Marjorie Henbury entitled Permit parking puts jobs at risk, but she shouldn’t be surprised by the action (or inaction) of Kettering Council.

Kettering Bridge Club, Mash Dancing School and several shops will be severely affected by the council’s decision to squeeze more money for parking permits from the residents of Field Street and Grange Road.

There was a time when Kettering Football Club sought help in finding a site so they could play on following the proposed closure of the Rockingham Road ground. They made sympathetic noises but that was about it.

There was a time when the people of Desborough voted in strength for a new supermarket to be built by Sainsbury’s. The council opted for their pals at Tesco.

While their neighbours at Corby strengthened their community spirit with help with an updated football stadium, Olympic-size swimming pool and a wonderful centre called Adrenaline Alley, Kettering’s focus remained on turning a once thriving Sheep Street into a wasteland.
